From the Ground Up

Starting today I’m going to post a few excerpts from my thesis. It’s still a work in progress right now, but several sections are more or less finished. I will do my best to make the excerpts intelligible on their own, but of course each section is only part of a larger whole. When it is complete I will make the entire text available here.

This first section is background info related to surrogate oxidants in hydrometallurgy. The purpose of this section is to make sure everyone reading my thesis is on the same page from the start. A common pitfall of technical writing and presentations is for the author to assume knowledge that the audience does not have. If the reader does not understand page 1, how will they understand page 50?
